ACT! 2000: Advanced
Overview

Students will learn the advanced features of contact management.

Prerequisites

Windows 98: Introduction, and ACT! 2000: Introduction, or equivalent knowledge.

Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should be familiar with the Windows 98 and ACT! 2000 environments. They should understand introductory contact database terms such as contact, record, and report.

Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Perform complex lookups by creating, naming, and using queries and Advanced queries.
  • Automate procedures by recording and running macros, and by accessing macros through the toolbar.
  • Exchange data by importing data into an ACT! database, exporting data out of an ACT! database, and synchronizing data between ACT! databases.
  • Customize an ACT! database by modifying field names and attributes, layouts, menus, and keyboard shortcuts.
  • Work with templates by creating, editing, merging, and applying templates.
  • Work with report templates by creating and editing them.
  • Manage a database by securing it, backing it up, and purging, compressing, and reindexing it.
  • Connect to World Wide Web sites by using Internet links.

Hardware/software Requirements

In order to run this course, you will need the following: a minimum of 16 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM); a minimum of 50 MB of free disk space on the hard drive for ACT! 2000; a 486 or higher processor; Microsoft Windows 98; and a mouse compatible with your hardware configuration and Windows 98. See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.

In addition, you will need printers if you want to print the contacts, mail merge letters, and reports created in the course.
