GroupWise 6.0 Level 1
Overview

Students will learn the basics of using GroupWise to send mail messages and create tasks, notes, and appointments for themselves and others. Students will also organize the display and storage location of these items. In addition, by using the Internet, students will learn how to access their Mailbox to send and receive mail messages from any computer with an Internet connection.

Prerequisites

To ensure students’ success with this course, we recommend that they first take the following Content courses or have equivalent knowledge:
  • Windows 95: Introduction
  • Windows 95: Making the Transition
  • Windows NT Workstation 4.0: Orientation
Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should have a basic understanding of the Windows 95 platform.

Performance-Based Objectives

After the students complete this course, they should be able to do the following:
  • Discuss the basic concepts of an electronic mail package and navigate through the GroupWise environment.
  • Explore the basics of electronic mail by reading, replying to, and forwarding mail messages.
  • Attach a file to a message, and organize documents by creating folders, copying and moving documents to folders, and deleting folders.
  • Manage notes and tasks by using the Calendar view.
  • Manage personal appointments and appointments for others.
  • Organize items in the main window’s Item List box, manage files, and control the appearance of the main window.
  • Send mail greater distances by accessing the Web.

Hardware/Software Requirements

    To run this course, you will need:

  • Pentium 200 Mhz or higher processor (multiprocessor is optional).
  • 300 MB of disk space for GroupWise software and 200 MB per user recommended (configurable by administrator).
  • TCP/IP networking.
  • Novell NetWare 5 or 6 (with eDirectory 8.5 or higher) or Microsoft Windows 2000/NT.
  • GroupWise Agent: 5.5 MB for NLM.
  • GroupWise Engine: 4.5 MB for NT.
  • Post Office Agent: 1 MB, as well as 250 - 400 KB times the number of active client users.
  • Message Transfer Agent: 1 MB, as well as 50 KB times number of domains and post offices serviced.
  • You will need a mouse at each client station to run this course.
  • You will need printers if you want to print the mail messages created in the course.
  • The following system configuration is required for the Windows client stations:

  • Dedicated workstation client: Windows XP, 2000, NT, or 98.
  • Minimum 5 MB free disk space (25 MB for full client install).
  • Pentium processor (recommended) with 28 MB of RAM.
  • GroupWise WebAccess Client: any standard Internet browser.
  • See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.
