Outlook 98: Level 2
Overview

Students will learn how to manage and grant permissions to Outlook 98 folders, share information by using folders, send faxes to contacts, and record entries in the Outlook Journal automatically.

This course, together with the Outlook 98: Level 1 (Windows 95) course, is designed to give students a comprehensive set of skills to effectively and efficiently use Outlook. Students should understand the concepts and skills covered in the prerequisite course.

Prerequisites

To ensure students’ success with this course, we recommend that they first take the following Content Education courses or have equivalent knowledge:
  • Windows 95: Introduction
  • Outlook 98: Level 1 (Windows 95)
Performance-Based Objectives

  • Manage and arrange Outlook items by sorting, filtering, and using the Find feature; and by displaying custom views and creating custom forms.
  • Share information with other Outlook users by creating, posting to, replying to, and editing posts in public folders; creating and posting to Net Folders; and granting other Outlook users folder permissions.
  • Communicate with contacts by sending faxes, sharing contacts with other users, and organizing contacts and notes.
  • Automatically record items associated with contacts in the Journal by setting options in the Options dialog box.
  • Integrate Outlook with Office applications by importing and exporting Office documents and creating an Office document in Outlook.
  • Customize the Outlook environment by creating custom toolbars and menu items to add to the Outlook Bar.
  • Investigate Internet and remote mail features by creating HTML documents, adding hyperlinks, and discussing the Outlook Newsreader and remote mail options.

Hardware/software Requirements

This book was written using the Windows 95 platform; however, the manufacturer’s documentation states that Outlook 98 can also run on Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 installed.

  • At least 16 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM)
  • At least 104 MB of free hard-disk space to install Outlook 98 and Internet Explorer 4.0
  • An IBM-compatible PC with a 486 processor
  • Windows  95 with Windows Messaging and Quick View turned on
  • Outlook 98 and Internet Explorer 4.0
  • A VGA or higher display adapter
  • A two-button mouse
  • An installed print driver (printers are not required)
  • A working network interface card (NIC) and a network cable or other medium for connecting the classroom computers
  • A Windows 95-compatible network
  • A Microsoft Exchange 5.0 server
  • See your reference manual or your network administrator for hardware considerations that apply to your specific setup.
