Overview
In this course the student will explore the new Windows XP environment, learn how to work offline, use the newest version of Internet Explorer, use Windows Messenger, explore Windows Media Player, and use Windows Movie Maker.
Prerequisites
Windows 98: Introduction.
Target Student
This course is designed for persons who already are familiar with and comfortable working in Windows 98 and want to know the new features in Windows XP from Windows 98. This course is not for students who are first time Windows users.
PerformanceBased Objectives
Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- The student will switch view using the new Control Panel, open multiple files from the My Documents folder, view your hard drive from the My Computer folder, customize the user interface, use the new Help and Support to find help information, and you will create and switch uses.
- The student will work offline by setting up an offline folder, synchronizing edited files and creating a dialup connection.
- The student will use Internet Explorer 6.0.
- The student will use Windows Messenger.
- The student will use Windows Media Player.
- The student will use Windows Movie Maker.

Hardware/software Requirements
You will need:
- A 233 MHz or higher processor is required.
- A 300 MHz or higher processor is recommended.A 128 MB of RAM is recommended as the minimum for Windows XP Professional.
- A mimimum of 1.5 GB of available harddisk space.
- Either a local CDROM drive, DVD drive, or access to a networked CDROM drive. For the lesson on Windows Media Player, a readable/writable CDROM drive is required.
- A Microsoft Mouse, or compatible pointing device.
- A 14.4 Kbps or higher modem.
- An Internet connection with access to the World Wide Web is necessary to complete some tasks throughout the book. (Note: Internet access may require payment of a separate fee to a service provoider; local charges my also apply).
- A PC camera or other digital video recording device is required of one activity in the book.
- An email address is required if you plan to complete the Working with WIndows Messenger lesson
