FrontPage 2002 (XP): Level 2
Microsoft Office Courses Overview

Microsoft FrontPage 2002, or FrontPage, is a desktop software application you can use to create, edit, and manage a web site and all of its elements, whether it's for an intranet or for the World Wide Web. It can be used to accomplish the simplest chores, such as adding text to pages, or for the most complicated tasks, such as collecting and storing form data in a database.

Courses Objectives

You will modify existing pages and webs by creating a splash screen, frames, forms, and FrontPage Web components to create and manage more collaborative, dynamic, and interactive webs.

Prerequisites

To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following course or have equivalent knowledge:

  • Windows 2000 Introduction
  • Microsoft Word 2002 Level 1
  • Microsoft Word 2002 Level 2
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 Introduction
  • FrontPage 2002 Level 1
A recommendation is that students have experience surfing the World Wide Web. It is also recommended, but not required, to have taken the following course or have equivalent knowledge:
  • HTML 4.01 Web Authoring Level 1
  • Access 2002 Level 1
Delivery Method:

Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities

Target Student;

Anyone needing the skills necessary to manage and enhance his or her web's functionality and usability

Certification:

FrontPage 2002: Level 2 is one of a series of courseware titles that addresses Microsoft Office Specialist (Office Specialist) skill sets. The Office Specialist program is for individuals who use Microsoft's business desktop software and who seek recognition for their expertise with specific Microsoft products. Certification candidates must pass one or more product proficiency exams in order to earn Office Specialist certification.

Hardware Requirements

You need
  • Pentium 133 MHz or higher processor required for all operating systems.
  • 64 MB of RAM is the recommended minimum for Windows 2000 Professional; in addition, you should have 8 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously. (Note: Memory requirements may differ for other operating systems.)
  • 600 MB of free hard-disk space.
  • Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM drive.
  • A 3.5"-disk drive.
  • A two-button mouse, an IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
  • VGA or higher-resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended.
  • 9600 baud modem or higher.
  • A multimedia computer required for sound and other multimedia effects. A hardware-accelerated video card or MMX processor will provide improved graphical rendering performance.
  • An Internet connection with access to the World Wide Web is necessary to complete some tasks throughout the book. (Note: Internet access may require payment of a separate fee to a service provider; local charges may also apply.)
Platform Requirements

  • Windows 2000 Professional with the Personal Web Manager and FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions. This book was written using the Windows 2000 Professional operating system with Service Pack 2 installed. At the time this was written, Microsoft Office XP Professional installs Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 which conflicted with Service Pack 2—you would receive server time-out errors. Upgrading it to the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer solved that problem. If you are using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, go to the Windows Update site, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, to upgrade to the latest version. Using this book with other operating systems or configurations may affect how the activities work. (Note: The manufacturer states that Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage will work with Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows ME—which does not support the Personal Web Manager—Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0, and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage will not run on the Microsoft Windows 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x, or Microsoft Windows 95 operating systems.)
Software Requirements

  • A Complete installation of Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage—see the Class Setup Requirements for additional instructions.
  • An installed printer driver. (Printers are not required; however, each PC must have an installed printer driver to use Print Preview.)
Performance-Based Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • create, save, and distribute a FrontPage page template.
  • create an animated entry page to a web site by inserting a FrontPage Web component.
  • use frames and Web components to display and repurpose existing content.
  • acquire data using a form and display database data on a page.
  • make a web more useful by adding elements and components that will make it easier for co-workers and visitors to locate information.
  • manage and monitor a web's content.
