Migration to J2EE for Mainframe Developers
Overview

Using instructor-led discussions and interactive case studies, this course is designed to assist mainframe legacy developers in their transition to the eCommerce development environment. This seminar will illustrate the following topics: eCommerce infrastructure overview, J2EE Framework, comparing J2EE to mainframe architecture, define basic concept of object orientation, demonstrate OO principles of objects, inheritance, abstraction and encapsulation and depict the standard principles of OO web application design.

Prerequisites

Each student should have a programming background, preferably in a mainframe legacy application system

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand the underlying components of the eCommerce infrastructure
  • Illustrate the differences and capabilities of Web Servers and Application Servers
  • Become familiar with the J2EE platform architecture
  • Learn the role of the J2EE API infrastructure and the Java class library
  • Compare components of the mainframe architecture to the J2EE framework
  • Understand the principles of object orientation and highlight differences from procedural development
  • Illustrate the OO concepts of inheritance, abstraction, polymorphism and encapsulation.
  • Depict the role of class types and objects
  • Learn the use of attributes and methods in object design
  • Learn basic object oriented programming techniques
  • Differentiate between procedural and OO applications
