SQL Server 2000 provides powerful, versatile support for working with data as XML, and for communicating with the server over HTTP. In this course, you’ll learn how to retrieve data from SQL Server as XML, how to use standard XML-based techniques to query and modify data, and how to bulk-load large XML documents into SQL Server tables. The course combines detailed, example-based instruction on techniques with clear explanations of the underlying concepts.

In this course, you will...

  • Understand the usefulness of the XML and HTTP technologies supported by SQL Server.
  • Safely set up Internet Information Services (IIS) to expose selected SQL Server data over the Internet or over your intranet.
  • Use the new FOR XML clause to return data from SQL Server as XML, and control the formatting of the XML results.
  • Create XML Views that expose your SQL Server data as if it were contained in an XML document.
  • Process XML within your SQL Server stored procedures.
  • Create XML documents that can be used to modify SQL Server data.
  • Efficiently load data from large XML files into SQL Server databases.
Prerequisites :

Some familiarity with XML will be helpful, but it is not required—fundamental XML terms and concepts are explained as they are introduced. Programming examples assume knowledge of the Visual Basic language and ADO; however, these examples comprise a relatively small portion of the material. The only real prerequisite for this course is some basic experience using SQL Server and Structured Query Language (SQL).
