Personal computing Overview
Students will learn a number of basic skills that will provide a good foundation for using Mac OS in their everyday work.
Course Benefits:
Students will learn how to use Mac OS 9 to create a filing system to organize the files stored on their computer. Students will also learn to open applications, create files, and save files in specific folders on the computer. Students will set various options so that their computer functions to meet their specific needs and preferences.
Target Student:
Students enrolling in this course should have little or no experience using a Macintosh. Students may or may not have experience using other computers.
What's next:
This course, Mac OS 9 Introduction, is the first course in this series. Students who want to learn advanced features can take Mac OS 9 Advanced.

Hardware /Software Requirements:
You will need:
- A Mac OS-based Apple computer with a PowerPC processor.
- At least 32 MB of physical RAM. If using less than 40 MB of physical RAM, virtual memory must be set to at least 40 MB.
- A color monitor with 256-color (8-bit) or greater video card (24-bit color recommended).
- A mouse or compatible tracking device.
- A CD-ROM drive.
- Mac OS 9 operating system.
See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.
In addition, you will need printers if you want to print the memo created in the course.

- Start up and shut down the computer.
- Choose commands from menus and use keyboard shortcuts.
- Use various window controls and menu commands to manage your workspace.
- Create a filing system to organize documents, applications, and folders.
- Use items in the Apple menu.
- Use control panels to change settings for your computer.
- Perform basic operations with word processing and Internet applications.
- Access online help.
- Work with several applications at the same time.
