Word 97 To Word 2002 (XP): New Features
Overview

This course serves as a quick reference to new and improved features since Office 97 and guides students through the transition process

Course Objectives

You will use Microsoft Word intermediate features for creating custom templates and styles, managing tables and table data, inserting graphics, creating a newsletter, sending form letters, creating a Web page, and managing document changes

Prerequisites

Students enrolling in this course should be comfortable in the Windows environment. They should have completed one of the following courses: Microsoft Office 97 to Office XP: New Features, Word 97: Level 1 (Windows 95) or Word 97: Level 2 (Windows 95), or have equivalent knowledge. In addition, this course assumes that students have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 97.

Target Student
This course assumes that students have experience with Office XP. It is recommended that students have familiarity with an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer. .

Performance-Based Objectives
Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

* Work with the new features affecting the environment.

* Explore some of the new features involved with formatting and editing text.

* Explore some of the new features in tables and merging.

* Investigate the many new and improved features for drawing and producing, using, and reading Web pages..

Benefits
Students will explore new and improved Word application environment elements such as the application window and page views. They will become familiar with basic tools and printing such as the synonyms shortcut menu, the translation feature, the word count toolbar, and print zoom options. They will also become familiar with formatting and editing features such as smart tags and the styles and formatting task pane. Students will learn about new table features and enhancements as well as the mail merge wizard. Lastly, the new drawing canvas will be introduced as well as new web document features.

Platform Requirements

This course was developed using the Windows 2000 platform. However, the manufacturerÂ’s documentation states that Office XP can also run on Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6x.

Hardware Requirements/software required to run this course

To run this course, you will need:

- A Pentium 133 MHz or higher processor with a minimum of 64 MB of RAM for the operating system and an additional 8 MB of RAM for each Office application running simultaneously. (For Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE, 24 MB of RAM for the operating system. For Windows Me or Windows NT, 32 MB of RAM for the operating system.)
- A minimum of 520 MB of free hard-disk space.
- Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM drive for installation purposes.
- A floppy-disk drive.
- A Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
- A Super VGA or higher resolution monitor.
- Microsoft Windows 98 or later, or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6x or higher installed.
- A complete installation of Microsoft Office XP.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher.

See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.

In addition, you will need an installed printer driver.
